Our Centre

Meet our Centre & Director

Welcome to Kedron Park Road - LEAD Wooloowin. My name is Antonia Kalatzis and I am the Centre Manager of our great service. I have over twenty years of experience in the early childhood sector and have had the pleasure of being part of the team at LEAD Wooloowin Since May 2017.

We are conveniently located with great road and rail links to the city and surrounding suburbs. We are an established service and are privileged to have worked in partnership with many families in the Wooloowin, Kedron, Clayfield, Lutwyche and Nundah areas. Our service provides an Emergent Curriculum & Reggio Emelia Approach, in a nurturing, caring and fun environment for children from six weeks to school age. We offer Long Day Care and a Government Approved Queensland Kindergarten Program which is delivered by a Qualified Early Childhood Teacher.

We recognise parents as children's first and most influential teachers, as such, we work toward creating strong partnerships with families to ensure our children's needs are in the forefront of our work and decision making. We are also fortunate to be part of a linguistically and culturally diverse community - this is also reflected in our team of passionate educators. We value the opportunity to share and learn from each other, which we believe supports lifelong learning for our children as well as us!

We have five age groups or 'rooms', we believe that the learning environment has an important role in extending children's learning and exploration. A well prepared and resourced environment will invite children to engage in purposeful experiences. There should be opportunities for children to explore different learning styles such as independent, co-operative and small or large group learning. With this is mind, our rooms 'overlap' ages which gives us flexibility to look at each child individually, ensuring that we are able to provide peer learning opportunities as well as a challenging and stimulating environment.

Our Early Childhood Teacher believes that early years education is not only about learning new skills and concepts, but is an opportunity to learn life values, attributes and learning dispositions or 'habits of mind'. We actively role model values such as responsibility, understanding, honesty, creativity, self-confidence, respect, perseverance, enthusiasm, friendliness, co-operation and consideration. All of these learning areas provide the foundation for a successful transition into the Preparatory Program (Prep) for the beginning of each child's school journey.

And finally, our fantastic Chef prepares all children's meals, including delicious homemade purees for our babies. Our Chef also holds a childcare qualification which complements our program by an additional 'cooking' lesson each week for the children in our older rooms. We focus on nutrition and healthy eating as well as including early numeracy concepts around counting, weighing and measuring. This program is further supported by our edible garden which is used for our kitchen. Our Kindergarten friends will pick herbs, lettuce and other yummy veggies and deliver them to the kitchen where they are included in our meals.

Please contact our service to arrange an appointment to ensure we have the time to showcase the wonderful learning we have to offer here at LEAD Wooloowin.

We look forward to sharing your child's learning journey!

With thanks,

Antonia and the team
